Catchment Facts
  • Total area: 825km2
  • Stream network length: 1,770km
  • Local Councils: Brisbane City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council
  • Dominant land uses: native bush, grazing, rural residential, urban
  • The upper catchment of the North and South Pine Rivers is part of the undeveloped areas of Brisbane Forest Park and Bunyaville State Forest
  • The mid reaches flow through rural residential areas, before entering the highly urbanised lower catchment
  • The North Pine River is impounded by North Pine Dam to form Lake Samsonvale. Another impoundment, Lake Kurwongbah, is situated on a tributary of the North Pine River
  • Residential development is the major pressure on the catchment
Freshwater results
C-Pine Catchment  
  • Streams generally in fair condition.
  • An increase in aquatic macroinvertebrates offset by a decrease in ecosystem processes.
Estuarine results
C-
D+Pine Estuary   
  • Continued high nutrients offset by decrease in turbidity and phytoplankton concentration and an increase in biological health.
