Science and Innovation    Stages of the Program   Integrated Partnership: Land to Sea; Adaptive Waterways Management Framework

Integrated Partnership: Land to Sea; Adaptive Waterways Management Framework

This stage evolved from the efforts to develop and implement the South East Queensland Water Quality Management Strategy 1996

The Partnership approach operates through a wide variety of consultative, participatory, advisory, planning, decision-making and regulatory processes to achieve the Healthy Waterways Vision.  The Adaptive Management Framework, one of the operating philosophies of the Partnership, can be described as on-going knowledge acquisition, monitoring and evaluation, leading to continuous implementation of management.

The approach recognises that action can seldom be postponed until we have “enough” science to fully understand the situation.  This led to improved understanding of the means for dealing with resource management issues from land to sea, as well as providing the flexibility necessary for social, economic and ecological relationships.

The Partnership framework illustrates a unique approach to water quality management whereby scientific research, community participation and development of management actions are done collaboratively.  Improved understanding and development of appropriate decision support tools for management of land and water resources result in effective prioritisation of management initiatives.
